This turnip and cauliflower mash is a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional mashed potatoes. The combination of turnips and cauliflower provides a creamy texture and a delightful sharp flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cauliflower
- 2 large turnips
- 2-3 tablespoons butter
- Sea salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Fresh or dried parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Prep the Vegetables:
- Peel the turnips and cut them into cubes, similar in size to potato cubes.
- Cut the cauliflower into florets, discarding the tough stem.
- Cook the Vegetables:
- Place the turnip cubes and cauliflower florets in a large pot.
- Cover with water and bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook until both the turnips and cauliflower are tender when pierced with a fork, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain and Mash:
- Drain the vegetables thoroughly.
- Return the turnips and cauliflower to the pot or a large mixing bowl.
- Mash and Season:
- Using a potato masher or an immersion blender, mash the turnips and cauliflower until smooth. For an extra creamy texture, you can also use a food processor.
- Add the butter and continue mashing until well incorporated.
- Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning as needed.
- Serve:
- Transfer the mash to a serving bowl.
- Sprinkle with fresh or dried parsley for garnish.
